K. Atchley performs 14521 at Field Effects 10

14251 is an assisted installation for fountains and laptop computer executing a program written in the Max/MSP software environment. The performer uses sensors and computer to sample a pitch from the sound of the fountains. The fountains generate a sound similar to white noise and a given sampled or estimated pitch is nearly indeterminate. The program performs scaling to keep the pitch set within the composed range. Chords (based one equal, just, or mean tone tunings) are constructed on the fundamental, pitch and are sustained until another sample is taken and a new chord constructed. The first chord glissandos to the new chord and the process is repeated until the coda.
